I decided to confront Joanne. I knew her to be this sweet clinging friend, but what really changed? I was curious to know.

"Joanne, what happened to you? You were…" she didn't let me finish my statement.

"David happened! He thinks he can just shove me aside, right?"

I kept quiet for a while.

“I thought you didn’t love him that much,” I said. “Do you remember telling me about the guy you loved back then?”

She smiled and stared at me till I had no other choice than to wonder if I had a bug on my face.

"Oh! So you could have him to yourself!?" she burst out.

I stood up immediately.

“You think I haven’t noticed the way you look at him!” she yelled. “Do you think I didn't see you both kiss in the hallway!?"

I attempted to say something but she interrupted me.

"If I can't get him, you won't either. Leave now!"

I stepped out and sighed in relief when I was meters away from her. Okay, I get it now. But if she has an issue with me, why does she want to take revenge on the House of Earl?

It was Jeremy. He had returned from his trip. He claimed he needed to clear his head out when his mum passed on. I guess he really didn't know about the issue at hand.

"You didn't even call me," he complained.

How could I explain what had kept me occupied?

"I get it, you were broken too. But I just wished you were there for me too."

Before I could mutter something, he hugged me.

"I've missed you," he said.

Truth be told, I was at peace within myself when he was away; no struggle, no guilt. Now, he is back and I have to deal with that all over again.

I met Vodka later that day.

"How about our plan?" she smiled and whispered.

"Don't worry, it’s all done."

I will explain later. For now, something else came up… David. He requested for my presence in his office.

"I heard you still want to push through with the competition."

I nodded in affirmation. He wanted to say something else but I interrupted him,

"David, you've not shed a single tear since we lost mum."

His words got stuck, and just like a dam broken free, his eyes brimmed up as tears flowed down. I hurried to him and hugged him.

"It's okay David, let it out."

Jeremy walked in on us. Gosh! After all these weeks of peace.

"Dave, I..." his words got stuck. He threw me out like I was a puppet.

"What are you doing, you slut!"

What? Did I just here that? My head sparked. I gave him a piece of my angry mind, except that I shouldn't have added, "I will never love you!"

He hurried off, broken. I realised I had said too much, because minutes later, we received a call from a nearby hospital that Jeremy was involved in an accident.
