MEET THE AUTHOR OF WRONG NUMBER

Three things defines a good story: humour, suspense, and that little dose of charm that keeps readers glued to their books. Interestingly, we are honoured to bring to you the full transcript of an interview we had with an excellent writer who bakes these traits into her stories. Meet Toyin Rachael, the author of Wrong number.

Can you please tell us about yourself?

My name is Toyin  Taiwo. I studied food science and technology. I  graduated from the Federal University of Techology, Akure. I’m a writer and I  have four books presently to the glory of God.

What do you usually do when you’re not writing

When I’m not writing, I listen to music. I do watch movies too.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

Well... I didn’t discover my talent early. I wrote my first story in 2015 and I was in my late twenties.

How do your friends and family react whenever they read your written crafts?

There’s a saying that a prophet does not have so much value in his own home, but mine is a different case. They love my craft and appreciate me. In fact, they read my stories first before others get to read them.

Which author(s) inspire you most? And why?

I have more than one author who inspires me. People like Audrey Tumms, Tiffany J, Sally Dadzie, and many others.

In your opinion, what makes a good story?

The plot matters a lot. The story has to be real, something readers can relate with. Interesting and above all educative.

How did you come up with the idea for Wrong number?

[Smile] I received a call one day and the person at the other end of the phone mentioned someone else’s name and I replied, "Sorry, wrong number". After the call, the inspiration just came naturally. So I had the title first before writing the story.

How long did it take you to complete this story?

I think it took me about a month or so.

What was the major challenge you faced in the course of writing this story?

The major challenge I had while writing this story was the day I decided to pen down the abortion (bleeding) part. I really felt her (Daniella's) pain. I was in a bad mood throughout that day. Aside that, writing ‘Wrong number’ was really fun.

Has this story inspired you in any way? Tell us about it.

Yes, it has. I've learnt that all things actually work together for our good. We may have some bad experiences in life, but at the end, we realise those pains were actually worth it.

Do you have other books that you would like us to know about?

Yes! I fell in love, Anike and Broken Hedge.

Final word... What would you like to tell our avid readers who have been reading your story over and over again.

I want to say a big thank you to all my readers. Your comments and words of encouragement actually keeps me going. Thanks very much! God bless you. And I want to say a big thank you to Country Tales as well, thanks for having me. I’m honoured, God bless you all.
